Study Update #4: UCC Article 9

I am drinking wine from Slovenia. Or Slovakia? Are those the same place? Anyway, it didn't have enough vowels in the name. It's not bad, but it isn't quite the right wine to pair with Kraft Macaroni & Cheese.

Study Update #3: UCC

I'm watching "The Upside of Anger". According to the reviews, it is a "brilliant psychodrama" with "richly layered" performances; it's a "smart adult drama". I'm bored. I prefer movies with guns, spies, mutants, elves, and/or spaceships. I think I'm just going to fast-forward to the end and see who dies.

Study Update #2: UCC

The cat kept trying to "help" me study. So I got out the catnip and got her nipped up to distract her. Now she's passed out on top of her scratchy toy. :-)

Study Update: UCC

Section 2-666: "How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days." The beginning was pretty dumb, but when it got to the party where she filled his medicine cabinet with tampons and got baby pictures from his mom, I was laughing pretty hard. It's not quite over yet. Will Matthew McWhatever and Kate Hudson live happily ever after? I don't know yet! The suspense! Who knows how it will end?

Soy Makes You Gay!

According to World Net Daily, "soy is feminizing, and commonly leads to a decrease in the size of the penis, sexual confusion and homosexuality." This has something to do with estrogen, I didn't read that closely. So I assume the article is talking about male homosexuality? If it's "feminizing", do I (a woman) run the risk of become more straight? I guess that's a risk I'm willing to take - but what about lesbians? Wouldn't soy actually "cure" them? The Jesus freaks at World Net Daily should totally be in favor of that!

And why is it that religious nuts seem to be way more worried about gay men than about lesbians? And how come it's always evangelical ministers who get caught having homosexual affairs, and not their wives?

HOW much?

Email from the university health services:

In June 2006, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) voted to recommend the first vaccine developed to prevent cervical cancer and other diseases in females caused by certain types of genital human papillomavirus (HPV). The vaccine, GardasilR, protects against four HPV types, which together cause 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital
warts.

This vaccine is currently approved for females between the ages of 9 and 26.

The HPV vaccine is available from Student Health Services for approximately $140 per dose (3 doses are required). If you have questions contact us at ...

Great! I've heard about the vaccine, it's an importa --- wait, how much? (Nuthin times nuthin, carry the nuthin...) $420? Yeah, right. Can we add that on to my student loans? Not.

Plus - "approved for females between the ages of 9 and 26"? So no one over 26 needs the vaccine? We must already have a natural immunity to HPV? Super! Who knew?

Good Thing I'm Not Studying Crim Law This Semester

Plot summary of the L&O SVU episode I just watched:
  • police go to woman's apartment to arrest her daughter.
  • mother says "you can't arrest her - I did it!"
  • police arrest mother; skip to trial - mother pleads not guilty.
  • during trial, while testifying, daughter says "you can't convict her - I did it!"
  • DA dismisses the case.
  • someone immediately finds a videotape giving daughter an alibi, proving daughter didn't do it.
  • mother can't be retried - double jeopardy.
  • mother and daughter live happily ever after.
  • (and it turns out that the mother was the one who really did it.)
Huh? What? So if I'm on trial for murder, all I have to do is find a friend with an alibi to come testify at my trial and to blurt out "i confess! it was me!" and then we all get to go home and nobody gets charged with perjury or conspiracy or being an accessory or anything? Neat - I'll have to make a note of that - might come in handy some day.

Study Update

Tonight I went to Starbucks to study. It has 3 clear advantages over the law library:
(1) it's not full of law students;
(2) it's got yummy snacks and tasty drinks; and
(3) there's no free internet to distract me from studying.

Except that it failed on point #1 tonight - I was happily typing away when I heard the voice of the 4th most annoying student in school. I looked over, and yup, it was him. I quickly looked away to avoid making eye contact. I tried really hard to block out his voice - and then he left! Woo hoo! He probably saw me, but I think I was successful in pretending I didn't know him. Yay!

Maybe TV Isn't Real After All

What I've learned from watching "Law & Order SVU": if you are a single woman living alone in New York, you will be raped at least once, and possibly carjacked. However, you will at least have a really big apartment.

Everyone I know in New York lives in apartments that are about the size of a kitchen on SVU. On SVU, waitresses and single mothers especially seem to have spacious, well-lit apartments. Wait - I wonder if this means that the people in Miami are not all as attractive and scantily-clad as the ones on CSI?

In other news, the UCC apparently has something to do with "goods" and "sales". I'm sure that there are many other exciting UCC facts that I will discover before the final exam next week.

Do you want the terrorists to win?

Your 'Do You Want the Terrorists to Win' Score: 81%

You are a terrorist-loving scoundrel who hates our dear leader and the values he defends. There are few redeeming qualities about you. You most likely celebrated when the evil-doers hit us on 9/11, then opposed the Iraq war when we tried to pay them back. You hurt us at every step and cause troops to die in the field by questioning Bush's decisions. You are most likely a lost cause, doomed to be a brainwashed victim of free thought and liberalism forever. No dose of Ann Coulter's prose can save you now.
